Hello friends! I hope I still have some friends that read my blog. It’s tough to write anything very regularly, because I tend to put a lot of work into making my writing high quality. But that means new content comes around less often… and for that reason I understand that I may be losing some viewers. But at this point the blog is just a casual hobby and I appreciate anyone who enjoys it!
So I just got back from Las Vegas for a friend’s bachelor party. There were about 12 of us there and we stayed at the Aria. This place was unreal. It’s exactly what Vegas is supposed to be – over the top, ridiculous and expensive. Now I didn’t take many pictures, simply because this was my 4th time to Vegas and it wasn’t all new to me, but I did take a few. At the Aria, you walk into this massive, grand lobby that has these crazy butterflies hanging from the wall.
I managed to get a non-stop flight with two friends, so once we checked in we headed up to our rooms to get ready to go out. Most of the guys had already been there all day, and we didn’t arrive until around 7:30. I got into my room and the lights came on automatically, some music turned on, and the curtains opened! I had massive floor to ceiling windows that wrapped around the corner of my room. The view was awesome.
And then there was the mini-bar. It was like nothing I have ever seen before. And stupid me, I thought everything was free since the room was so expensive. But then I saw the bottle of Patrone and the “Romance Kit” on top of the fridge, and I figured there was no way they were free. So I pulled out a mini bottle of spiced rum and a diet coke, and poured myself a little drink while I read the instruction manual. It turns out this drink cost me $12.50. Yeeeehaw. I learned that you can take out any item you want to “read the ingredients”, but if it’s out for more than 60 seconds you get charged for it. So what did I do? You guessed it. I took out that “Romance Kit” because I just had to know what was in there. Well I wasn’t surprised by the lube and the condoms. But what was quite funny was the “feather tickler”. I forget how much it was exactly, but I think it was around $40. When I tried to check out at the end of the week, the lady told me I owed $11 for “gummy bears”! Now I may have had a $6 snickers bar and an $8 bag of pistachios, but I sure as hell did not eat any $11 gummy bears. So she was nice and took the charge off.
Anyways, once I got done my drink that was made of gold, I headed down to the casino floor to meet up with the group. That didn’t go so well as some of them were difficult to get a hold of via texting. Once I did make it to the bar they were at (which was this crazy pool party), they were already gone. And as I was leaving that place, someone did a belly flop and soaked me. Sooooo I was kind of pissed, especially since it cost me $25 to get in plus the cost of the cab ride. So I headed down to the casino below the bar and sat down at the blackjack table. Once I finished playing, I headed back to the Aria, and played some more blackjack. But before I found a table, I ran into two of my favourite poker players, John Juanda and Tom Dwan. They were nice enough to take a photo with me. I know most of you have no idea who these guys are, but they are celebrities to me. I’ve watched them play poker on TV for millions of dollars. I was almost surreal. And then something even crazier happened. I was washing my hands in the bathroom, and I looked beside me and there was Johnny Chan also washing his hands. This man is perhaps one of the top 3 most famous poker players in the world. He has won the World Series of Poker twice in a row, and came in second place the year after that. Johnny Chan has even been in a movie with Matt Damon and Edward Norton.
So the Aria limits were a tad higher, but I won a bit at the last casino so I was okay with it. I ended up doing very well and cashed out when I was at the peak of my winnings. They always “colour up” your chips so you aren’t lugging around a pocket full of smaller chips…and my winnings ended up being just over $1000! I felt like a high roller, but I was also super paranoid that I was going to get robbed or that I was going to drop this tiny little circular disk that was worth so much money.
The blackjack tables are open 24/7, and by the time I got to bed it was like 4:30am. So the next day most of the guys met up at the pool and did our best to avoid sunburns. I forgot how easy it was for a few drinks and some sun to drain all of the energy from you. So when we were done in the pool I needed a nap. And then later that night we all headed out again to another bar, and the last night was much of the same. It was an awesome trip with really great people. My feet hurt from walking around so much, which is weird because I specifically said to myself that I wouldn’t walk so much on this trip. Everything in Vegas looks close but when you actually start walking, everything is SO FAR AWAY! Although my feet hurt and I didn’t eat all that well, I was still very happy to get away for a few days. With all the wedding planning and other things going on, it was good to have no schedule for once. I think everyone needs that in their lives. It gives you balance and provides perspective on what is really important: enjoying life!
Anyways, I’ll be back very soon with some more awesome paleo recipes. I have a few saved up that I’ve been trying out, and I am super excited to talk about my roast I made last night! Thanks for reading 🙂
